First Look — Amazon Q! (and a small part of CodeGuru)

I have to admit 😆…I haven’t followed closely on the “code assist” side of Amazon closely in the past year. Hence, when the Amazon Q news arrived during the recent AWS Summit in Singapore, it caught me by surprise!

To catch us up — the last two years have seen the development of code assistants + AI-powered chatbots — namely GitHub Copilot and Gemini Code Assist by Google Cloud. Amazon Q joins this roster of assistants to empower developers’ everyday work — writing and deploying code.

On 30th April 2024, Amazon Q was formally announced as “Generally Available”, which means that it is no longer in its testing phase, and ready to be used by users for production use cases. This is an exciting time for any AWS developer — to test the numerous features that Amazon Q supports!
